In the past, if you wanted to buy a new product, you would look at the advertisement in the newspaper or go to the store and buy the product. But nowadays in the age of social media, choosing any product should have been so easy. But, unfortunately, it has become difficult and confusing. The reason is the huge explosion of advertisements through various types of social media, and communication devices. In such a case, it is not clear which product to choose.

And if you ask those who have bought the product in the past as an experience, they also praise the product that they had bought. So we get even more confused. To stop this confusion, we are providing basic information about laptops for new laptop buyers. It will definitely benefit you.

How to choose a laptop?

When choosing a laptop, think about, what is the nature of your work? What are you going to use the laptop for? This needs to be considered first. You have confirmed the use then choosing a laptop becomes easy. How will you choose your laptop? The answer to this question is ‘How will you use your Laptop?’ Which type of laptop do you use? To understand this, read the uses of the laptop given below then you can choose the proper laptop for you.

Uses of Laptop

Today, laptops are commonly used in a variety of settings, such as at work, in education, for playing games, for web browsing, for personal multimedia, and for general home computer use.

Generally, laptops are used in the following three ways.

1) Light Use

This includes filling out various online bills, and exam forms, creating simple documents, sending and receiving e-mails, using social media, watching movies, using Paint, creating documents in Word and WordPad, using Excel, and creating presentations in PowerPoint. A laptop is used to do simple tasks like teaching children, surfing the web, communicating, and so on.

2) Medium Use

This includes doing more typing, editing documents, doing research for college students, doing professional research, browsing and editing photos, opening multiple tabs in a web browser at the same time, watching HD movies, and more.

3) Heavy Use

This includes Photoshop, AutoCAD, video editing, playing heavy games, creating programs, etc. This will allow you to decide which type of laptop to use. Once you have decided on the type of use of your laptop then you can select the required specifications.

Specifications (Hardware)

1) ProcessorThis is a major part of a laptop. It is also called the brain of a laptop. The speed of the laptop depends on the processor.

2) Memory or RAM: Random Access Memory is a hardware device that allows information to be stored and retrieved on a computer. RAM is a volatile memory and requires the power to keep the data accessible. If the computer is turned off, all data contained in RAM is lost.
Ram

Types of RAM

Over the evolution of the computer, there have been different variations of RAM. Some of the more common examples are DIMM, RIMM, SIMM, SO-DIMM, and SOO-RIMM

Additional RAM allows a computer to work with more information at the same time, which usually has a considerable effect on total system performance. Laptops usually come with 4 GB, 8 GB, or 16 GB RAM.

Display
3) Display: When you're shopping for a laptop, the screen is one of the most important components. People who don't do a lot of high-end tasks may not notice the difference, but even the most tech-illiterate person will appreciate a beautiful display. It is an output device of a laptop or computer.

How does a laptop display work?

Laptops frequently share memory between the CPU and the GPU, saving space, and reducing power consumption. A laptop displays its graphics on a liquid crystal display (LCD) screen. Most screens measure between 12 and 17 inches, and the size of the screen affects the overall size of the laptop.

Choose 14 14-inch, 15-inch, or 17-inch displays as per your requirement. Laptop battery backup and laptop weight should also be considered when choosing a display. The larger the screen size, the less battery backup and increase the weight of the laptop and more space to place.

Hard Disk
4) Hard Disk: hard disk drive (HDD), or fixed disk is an electromechanical data storage device that uses magnetic storage to store and retrieve digital data using one or more rigid rapidly rotating platters coated with magnetic material.
Types of Hard Disk

HDD
i) HDD: Hard Disk Drive

HDD- is often used interchangeably with the terms "hard drive" and "hard disk." However, the term "hard disk drive" is technically the most accurate, since "hard drive" is short for "hard disk drive" and the "hard disk" is actually contained within the hard disk drive.

SSDii) SSD: Solid-State Drive

SDD or Solid State Drive is one of the newest generations of storage devices that are used for PCs and Laptops. In contrast to traditional Hard Disk Drives or HDDs, a memory consisting of semiconductors is used to store data. Similar to what you can find in other devices such as Flash Drives and Memory Cards.

iii) SSHD: Solid-State Hybrid Drive

Solid-state hybrid drives or SSHDs are a combination of a traditional Hard Disk Drive with a small amount of SSD storage built into one Hybrid enclosure.

The storage in devices may be needed from person to person since applications and choices are different. For example, if you are a gamer, you may need high storage with a graphics card for better experiences on your gaming laptop. Similarly, the need will arise for every individual as now all have the craze for technology, and we need much software for our work.

5) Battery: Currently, there are three types of batteries used for laptops. They are Nickel Cadmium (NiCad), Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH), and Lithium-Ion (Li-ion) Lithium-Ion is the most common battery in newer laptops. Each battery type has different characteristics.
Battery

The capacities of batteries are measured by power delivered per battery weight, and rate of self-discharge. Power is often measured in watt-hours per kilogram. Self-discharge refers to the fact that all batteries lose power when they’re stored. A cycle refers to how many times a battery can be taken from a full charge to a full discharge before the battery can no longer hold power.

Graphics Card
6) Graphics Card: What is a graphics card? A graphics card is a computer or laptop hardware. It is used to produce an image that can you see on a monitor. The graphics card does this by converting data into a signal that the monitor can understand. The integrated graphics are built into the motherboard. If your work is related to graphics, then you should choose a laptop with a graphics card and memory.
What is the use of graphics cards in computers, or laptops?
You can speed up the process of processing, run games at better FPS, texture processing is possible, and you can do animation.
Is the graphics card essential in a laptop?
It depends on the work that your laptop is going to be used for. If you are going to use your laptop for commercial and office use then there will be no need for a dedicated graphics card. It will work without any problem for your normal office work such as editing Excel spreadsheets and editing your Word documents.

But, if you are going to use your laptop for development purposes or you want to use the laptop for gaming purposes then a dedicated graphics card is needed.

7) USB: Stands for “Universal Serial Bus.” USB is a technology that allows a user to connect an electronic device to a computer. It is the most common type of computer port and it is a fast serial bus. The use of a USB driver is to transfer the data from one place to another. It can be used to connect a mouse, keyboard, printers, scanners, digital cameras, mice, game controllers, and removable media drivers. This means a device can be plugged into a free socket, and start to work. Sometimes it is used to install software into the computer or laptop. It is also useful to protect your important documents and information.

What type of device USB is?

It is both. A flash drive, for instance, is an input device when you're copying files from it, and an output device when you're copying files into it. So a USB device is both an input and output device.

Choose the latest version of USB. What is the latest USB version available? USB 4.0 is the latest version available now.
