Safety for the baby before and after birth: Birth to 6 months
We read, listen or watch different
news on newspapers, television, radio, or social media. In it, hundreds of
babies die prematurely or 6 months after birth and less than 1 year of age due
to an accident. With a little care, such incidents can be avoided or prevented.
Factors that cause premature birth of a baby
Some
babies are born prematurely, either because of maternal or marital problems.
Some events can stimulate premature delivery including placental abruption,
cervical dysfunction, hormonal changes, or infection. There are many risk
factors for premature birth, including premature birth, pregnancy with multiple
babies, infection, drug or alcohol use, and age.
While
some risk factors cannot be changed, there are some common ways to reduce the
chances of premature birth. Premature birth is not usually a planned event.
Emergencies can also occur depending on the cause of the birth and how
premature the baby is.
Some
cases can lead to premature delivery, including placental abruption, where the
placenta separates from the uterus during pregnancy. Disabled cervix, where the
uterus opens painlessly and slowly before the time it should. Hormonal changes,
which can cause stress in an unborn baby or mother. Infection and placental
abruption.
Some reasons for premature birth of a baby
There
are a number of factors that can lead to the premature birth of a baby, which puts
pregnant women at higher risk of premature birth and delivery. If you have had
a premature delivery, your chances of having a second premature delivery are
two and a half times higher. You should tell your healthcare provider all the
information so that they can provide you with the proper care throughout your
pregnancy.
Another
risk factor for premature delivery is getting pregnant with twins or multiple
babies. The number of twins and multiple babies has increased in the last few
years, mainly due to the use of fertility drugs and other assisted reproductive
techniques. Many mothers of twins and many babies spontaneously give birth
prematurely. Complications during pregnancy can lead to premature delivery.
An important risk or factor is an infection
The following are some of the types of infections that can cause premature birth.
- Due to untreated urinary tract infection: This is double the risk of premature birth. Urinary tract infections are diagnosed at each medical visit and can be treated with antibiotics.
- Bacterial vaginosis: It also doubles the risk of premature birth. The main symptom of vaginosis is a slight odor or vaginal discharge. Vaginosis is treated with antibiotics.
- There are many other risk factors for premature delivery. Such as anemia, maternal weight loss, stressful work habits, smoking, drinking, and using drugs such as cocaine.
- Other risk factors for premature birth include being under 17 or over 40, having multiple miscarriages and pre-pregnancy weight loss.
- It can help you and your healthcare provider decide if you need special care to prevent premature delivery.
Measures to reduce the chances of premature birth
- Even if there are some risks or reasons you can't change, there are some common ways you can reduce the chances of a baby being born prematurely. There are reasons to encourage a healthy pregnancy.
- You should not smoke during or during your pregnancy.
- Avoid alcohol and the use of recreational drugs.
- Inform your healthcare provider of all medications you are taking and follow their advice. This is because some medications can be harmful to the pregnancy and may need to be taken in stages.
- Keep your weight down throughout your pregnancy depending on what your healthcare provider thinks is right for you.
- Eat a nutritious and balanced diet. If you are under 17, over 35, it is important to have a nutritious diet and good prenatal care.
- Avoid lifting weights and working out and standing for long periods of time.
- Whenever possible you should reduce stress in your life and use relaxation techniques, exercise, nutrition, and relaxation.
- Go to prenatal class.
- Avoid infections as much as possible.
- If there is a history of premature birth due to structural abnormalities of the uterus, these abnormalities can be corrected surgically before you become pregnant.
- Premature delivery can be reduced by surgically closing the uterus from the 14th week of the uterus to the ninth month of the cervix due to a miscarriage.
- Some chronic diseases can lead to premature birth if not treated properly during pregnancy. They need to be properly managed during pregnancy.
- If your healthcare provider thinks you are at high risk of having a premature delivery, they suggest that you should not have sex.
Accidents involving young children
Often
there are different types of accidents for young children. Parents do not know
what their children can do. Many things children learn quickly and before you
know it, your child falls off the bed and gets hit in the head, which can lead
to serious injuries. Children can have accidents for the following reasons.
Falling, road accident, poisoning, burning, suffocation, drowning, cycling,
smoke, or fire.
Falling out of bed
You
have seen accidents falling off the bed. We unknowingly make the following
mistakes and that leads to such accidents.
When
there is a baby and a mother at home, the doorbell rings, the cooker whistles
in the kitchen or someone calls from outside the house to ask for something,
then you go to open the door, close the pebbles or give something to an
outsider. A baby who is alone in bed at that time may fall out of bed and be
seriously injured. It is important to take the baby with you without leaving
him alone.
Car accidents
With
a baby when you are driving the car yourself, the baby is more at risk of
falling into the car. Accidents caused by car accidents lead to death. Such
accidents can be prevented by using a car safety seat. Your child will behave
well in addition to being more secure in the car safety seat so that you can
pay attention to your driving. In the car safety seat, your baby should travel
in the back seat of the car.
Make
sure your baby's car safety seat is properly installed. Read and follow the
instructions in the car safety seat and the sections in your car owner's manual
on how to use a car safety seat properly. Use a car safety seat every time your
child is in the car.
Falls
Your baby will probably be able to crawl for up to 6 months. Keep luggage away from
the baby in rooms where your baby may be injured. Install operable guards on
all doors and windows on the first floor. Do not leave your baby alone when
cleaning or changing covers on tables, beds, sofas, or chairs in the home.
Baby Walker
Use a baby walker only when you are
close to your baby. Sometimes, if you unknowingly come out of the door with a
baby walker, it may fall off your feet. This will cause serious injury to the
head or other organs. Babies with baby walkers can reach places where they can
pull heavy objects or hot food on themselves.
Drowning
Babies can drown in
very shallow water, so it should always be supervised when such a dangerous
place is nearby. The new construction includes water tanks, ornamental gardens,
swimming pools, large rainwater puddles, or ponds.
Poisoning
Most cases of
poisoning include medications, household products, spilled food, and cosmetics.
For this, all these items should be kept out of the reach of children.
Glass-related injuries
Broken
glass can cause serious cuts and therefore the materials around the house
should be carefully considered in the furniture or fittings you have. The baby
should be kept away from decorative glassware or showcase glass.
Burns
At 3 to 5 months, babies clench their
fists and drop objects. So do not place any hot objects or hot liquids near the
baby. To protect your baby from a fire, make sure you have a smoke alarm on every
level of your home, especially in the kitchen and bed. Test the alarm every
month. It's best to use a smoke alarm that uses a long-lasting battery but
replaces the battery at least once a year if you don't.
Hot drinks cause burns and scalds in
children under the age of five. It can be especially dangerous with open fires,
cookers, irons, hair tools. Therefore, these items should be kept at a safe
distance from children.
Sprains
A sprain is a ligament that connects the joint, stretches, twists, or tears. The
knees, feet, and wrists are the most common parts of the body. If this happens,
remove the ice pack from your first aid kit, rest the affected area and give it
time to heal.
Choking
Often
the mother has work in the kitchen so the mother puts a variety of objects in
front of the baby to play with. Children put everything they see or touch in
their mouths. In children, most of the time, putting objects in their mouths
and swallowing them can be an attraction, meaning that suffocation is a common
risk. Don’t leave even the smallest objects to play in front of your baby.
Never
give your baby harsh foods e.g. Don’t keep pieces of hard food like carrots,
apples, grapes, nuts, and popcorn. Children swallow such substances one by one.
This can cause the baby to suffocate. If you are not close, it can sometimes
lead to unforeseen events.
Items that can easily get into the baby's mouth should not
be placed near the baby to prevent possible suffocation. The baby should not
have soft pillows, stuffed toys, soft slippery objects, sharp or pointed toys.
Never put your baby to bed on a water bed. Be careful not to block the air in
the nose and mouth while covering the baby's face while sleeping.
